Practicing Harmony With Others: Value Everyone’s Uniqueness

Moving at the Speed of Trust

PHJ Way is a community of passionate, inspiring people united by a vision of a more peaceful, harmonious, and joyful world — and by the deep belief that it can start now, and start with each of us.

Beyond that shared vision, though, we are beautifully diverse. We come from different backgrounds, faith traditions, talents, personalities, and work experiences. That diversity is one of our greatest strengths — a deep well of perspectives to draw from.

But in the day-to-day of collaboration, it can also be…challenging.

Different Rhythms, Shared Purpose

I come from a corporate and startup background, where outcomes, metrics, and speed are prized and rewarded. There’s an expectation of excellence, constant movement, and little rest. Projects follow clear processes and frameworks.

Lately, I’ve been working with several colleagues on a PHJ Way project — people who bring entirely different skills, styles, and expectations to the table. Their approaches are more fluid, reflective, and relational.

At times, our differences slow us down, and I can feel my impatience bubbling up. That old internal voice says, “We need to move faster. We need to get this done.”

But something deeper in me knows: We’re not just building a project. We’re building trust.

The Slow Work of Harmony

As we learn to navigate these different rhythms, I’ve come to see that the payoff of slowing down is immense.

The outcome — the actual work — is richer when multiple perspectives are woven in. And just as importantly, the bonds we’re forming as we listen, adjust, and learn from one another are becoming a source of quiet joy.

I’ve heard the phrase “moving at the speed of trust,” and I’ve come to believe it’s exactly the right pace for this kind of work.

Trust takes time to develop. It can’t be rushed. But once it’s there, everything flows more easily.

Celebrating the Small Wins

Another lesson has been the importance of pausing to celebrate — to honor our small collective successes before plunging into the next to-do.

Taking that moment to recognize everyone’s contribution brings gratitude into the process and helps each person feel seen. Over time, we’re learning how to shape the work so that everyone’s unique strengths have room to shine.

Sometimes harmony is more important than speed.

And when harmony leads the way, progress — though slower — feels deeper, steadier, and far more meaningful.

Reflection

Harmony doesn’t mean sameness. It’s what happens when our unique voices blend into something whole — even when it takes time to find the rhythm.

Invitation

What might shift if you gave it the gift of time, patience, and trust?
